Reckless Driving

There are a lot of reasons why people consider hiring a private investigator. An investigator can track a person down using various surveillance techniques. Some pi only specialize in certain areas while others are a full service on law firms, corporations and other businesses. Below is an article of nola.com shows that the city of Kenner hired a private investigator for a cost of $8,400 to follow a city employee and fires him for reckless driving.

After spending $8,400 on private investigators to follow four city workers, Kenner has fired one of the employees. A March 25 letter from Rick Walther, the assistant director of code enforcement, says Mayor Mike Yenni’s administration fired Joey Metzler, an inspector who had worked for the city since 1989 and was making $43,000 a year.

The letter says Metzler was fired for reckless driving on Sept. 26, as well as for Metzler’s behavior in subsequent disciplinary hearings. It says nothing about the findings of the private investigator who followed Metzler.

Administration officials would not comment, citing the private nature of personnel matters. Metzler and his attorney, Ron Wilson, said they plan to appeal to the civil service board.

  1. Annette says:

Its surprising to think of the variety of ways that a private investigator can be used.

  2. Leila says:

Interesting article. I currently work part time for a polygraph examiner. When I first started working with one examiner, I also worked for his father who is a private investigator. He didn’t do much for companies, but he certainly did a lot of work with lawyers for their clients as well as private cases. I actually went out with him one night on a “stake out” watching for a woman’s husband in a child custody hearing. It was quite interesting putting my own skills to use, but learning the ins and outs of private investigating.

It’s amazing what PI’s do and what they can be hired for. Sounds like a very exciting job! 🙂

  4. Veronica says:

That was quite a bit of money to spend on the PI in this case. It is very interesting how far people will go to uncover the truth

  5. Dr. Wixy says:

More places probably should hire PIs to follow their employees. Especially city and county (or parish) managers. They did that here ages ago and found a local city manager not only working a mere 2 hours a day, but he was also spending city money on his mistress.

I think PIs could really help clean up city and county governments. Love the idea.

  6. Laurel Bill says:

It would be interesting to know what led up to the city hiring the PI. I’m wondering if they had heard many complaints and needed to know what the heck was going on!

  7. Emily says:

Seems like a lot of city money to spend on finding a reason to fire someone. Seems like there could have been a better way to spend the money.

  8. Ashley says:

Great information as always. That article was an interesting read!

  9. This seems like story. The employer must have had something against that employee and was looking for an excuse to fire him, maybe? He got his money’s worth anyway, I guess. The PI make out alright anyway. Thanks for sharinng!

Glad to see that there are resources for keeping our public officials honest

  13. Mei says:

I didn’t know that private investigators are really helpful especially to solving crimes. I was too much into dramas that I thought private investigators are only hired to follow someone to know what he does. Sorry about that.

Anyway, I hope that through a PI, they would be able to arrest the reckless driver.

  14. Malia says:

Interesting! Private Investigators are hired for all sorts of situations. I can’t imagine paying so much just to find out an employee was driving recklessly.

  15. Yvonne Brown says:

WOW! That is incredible! I wonder how one would figure out if an investigator was good or not before hiring them.

  16. Sometimes, we need to hire the services of private investigator for legal purposes and the truth itself.

  17. Jim Striegel says:

That must cost the company a lot of extra money to do this. Unfortunately, things like this have to be done.

  18. Stephanie Clopton says:

I never thought of using a PI for this kind of investigation.

  19. Traci Henegar says:

I think anyone using a company car should have the company’s phone number to call and report them if they’re driving reckless.

  20. Shari says:

Very interesting! PIs can be very helpful in so many ways. . .Coming from years of leading HR departments I believe all company drivers should be “checked up on” to ensure safety.

  21. Dov Shapira says:

    I was always considering becoming a PI… but …..

  22. Roch says:

Whoa I thought private investigations only happen a lot only in movies and TV programs. I haven’t heard or encountered a case as such in real life.

hiring a private investigator is great if you ever wish to track any person.

  24. Marie says:

This is interesting. That’s a lot of money to spend on monitoring four workers! Is it part of the office’s budget?

  25. I used to always associate PI when cheating spouses lol I guess there is a lot of reasons as to why someone would hire a PI!

  26. Shine says:

wow really? I thought this just happens in movies. how do you hire a PI? i mean, how do you choose which one is really reliable or good. I mean, they have issues too, so how ?

  27. I always thought you would hire a PI to find someone who went missing or a spouse who was cheating, Never knew that you can hire a PI too in this kinds of cases.

  28. katherine says:

Wow, this is a great reason to hire a PI!

  29. Franc Ramon says:

I think there are some matters which are confidential in nature that needs private investigators instead of law enforcers.

  30. Sue says:

Typically, you think of PI’s as people who follow cheating spouses. It is interesting how many other reasons there are to need a PI.

  31. I guess those things also happens in real life – in different cases, I guess.

Private investigator is really the best option, it’s just that, it’s pricey.
